Ascend has developed a gateway technology to enable its Wan access switches to take advantage of carrier based virtual private networks (VPN).
The Ascend Signalling Gateway will enable the networking company to jump onto the converged networks train.
David Misunas, vice president and general manager of voice and carrier signalling, said, "The gateway is a key element of our Multivoice strategy to deliver managed toll quality, carrier class voice and fax services for carriers and Internet service providers over their existing and future networks."
Ascend said the software will enable carriers to separate their network traffic from voice and replaces the need to purchase additional central office telephone switches.
