Apple is cutting the price of its popular iMac system to make room for a newer high end version.
The company is expected to drop the price of its current iMac in the US to $999 after Christmas from its current price of $1,299.
The new machine, which is widely reported to make its debut around the same time as the price cuts, will use the same form factor as the original. However, it will have more hard disk space and a faster processor. The current iMac features 4Gbytes of hard disk space and a 233MHz processor.
Apple UK said that no official statement had been made regarding either the new iMac or the expected price cuts. A spokeswoman for the company said there were no plans to launch a new iMac or drop pricing in the UK in the near future.
