Sun is to announce two network computers this quarter to take advantage of new developments in the Java operating system and tools.
A high end Javastation will cost under $800, said Sun. It will be based on a tower design, include flash memory for the first time, and support 100Mbps Ethernet. A $600 model will be similar to existing NCs but run the latest Java software.
Both models run on a Sun Microsparc II 100MHz processor and have 64mbytes of memory. Sun has hinted that these Javastations will run significantly faster than current models to combat criticism of slow operation in the past.
