Sun Microsystems has announced its support for the OpenMP standard for shared memory parallel applications. The move means Sun will make its Solaris operating system open to the OpenMP Application program interface (API).
Developers can then be sure that compiler directives in applications written for shared memory parallel architectures will be compatible on all platforms supporting OpenMP. These include all other major Unix operating systems and Windows NT.
