Internet domain registrar Network Solutions is to apologise to tens of thousands of customers whose email addresses it made public by accident.
According to the Washington Post, thousands of Network Solutions customers received messages that contained more than 85,000 email addresses of other customers.
A spokesman for VeriSign, the parent company of Network Solutions, admitted that a mistake had been made and that it would be apologising to its customers.
The list was sent to Network Solutions customers who purchased .org addresses through the company and whose addresses begin with the letters R to Z. Not all customers received the list.
Network Solutions had intended to send the recipients a message about how a recent transition in .org management would affect their accounts.
