Panic over Year 2000 chaos in the US shows signs of abating as an entertainment company today launched a family of cartoon characters based on the millennium bug.
New Jersey based Masterminds of Fun said the characters have been designed to "inject fantasy and adventure" along with an "educational theme" into the whole Y2K situation.
Evil eyed Y-Rus, the official Y2K villain, is scheming to wreak havoc and amass a huge fortune when non compliant systems fail at the turn of the century. Meanwhile friendly Zeek, the Y2K hero, is out to capture the culprit and restore order in society.
The company said Zeek and his Millennium Force are being promoted via a Web site www.hidenzeek.com and are touring major US cities.
Negotiations are also underway for a series of animated cartoon episodes and video games.
According to Masterminds of Fun, the ultimate purpose of the launch is to "educate youngsters by playing on a variety of problems in society which, like the Y2K crisis, mankind brought upon themselves."
In the future, Zeek and friends will address environmental, health and other issues.
