Email software optimised for mobile customers has been launched by Vodafone. vodafone:[email protected] can be accessed from any PC running Windows 95 or 3.1, with either a modem or a cellular data card connected to a Vodafone handset.
On subscribing to the service, users specify an email address based on their mobile phone number and the @vodafone.net suffix, for example, [email protected] A second email address (alias) can be created using the customer's name, for example, [email protected]
A customer with a digital Vodafone can receive Telenote alerts (short text messages) informing them of new email. The alert indicates the sender of the email, its subject and the time/date it was sent. Users pay a #15 connection fee, #5.50 a month subscription fee or #81 annually.
