Computer hardware firm NCR has accused Palm and Handspring of patentinfringement.
In a lawsuit, NCR claims the personal digital assistant (PDA) makers ofinfringing on its patent for making financial transactions using a creditcard sized terminal connected to a communications network.
"In total disregard of NCR's patent rights, Palm and Handspring both choseto use the inventions that had been developed and patented by NCR withoutpaying for them," NCR said in its complaint.
The company wants a court to block Palm and Handspring from allegedly usingits patents in their products.
A spokesperson for Handspring said the claim is without merit, while Palmdeclined to comment.
Although several other companies, including Casio and Compaq, make competinghandheld computers, none were named in the suit.
