Doomed. We're all doomed. At least, that's what we were told by Messrs. Bill Gates and Andy Grove last week. At the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, the pair bemoaned the fact that Europe is trailing miles behind the US in terms of technology. HP's CEO Lew Platt also joined in the Euro-bashing, saying we Europeans aren't inventive enough. It seems the Yanks send more Emails than we do, use the Internet more, and have more small software houses. But our main problem is that we don't buy enough computers from the Americans. According to them, that's the only thing we can do to lift us out of the Stone Age. It's very comforting that Grove, Gates and Platt should be so genuinely concerned about us.
Nothing to do with getting us to buy more Wintel kit, of course. That's just our European cynicism.
