London Transport this week awarded its long awaited #1 billion contract to develop and manage an automated fare collection system to the Transys consortium.
This includes services companies EDS and ICL, travel consultancy WS Atkins, and Cubic Corporation, which specialises in fare systems.
The Prestige project will see smartcards replace tickets on the 500 Underground trains and 6,000 buses that operate in London. The Transys consortium will design and install the systems over the next four years, and support them for a further 13 years.
