Direct PC vendor Gateway 2000 opened for business on the New York Stock Exchange yesterday and saw over half a million shares traded in the first 30 minutes. The company, based in North Sioux City, uses a cow for its symbol and had originally intended to use MOO as the ticker symbol. But chief executive Ted Waitt lost his proverbial sense of humour at the last moment and the symbol is now GTW.
