3Com distributors and resellers are likey to gain access to US Robotics (USR) products as a result of the companies? mega-merger this week, the company has hinted.
Steve Pataky, director of worldwide channel development at 3Com, said 3Com?s indirect channel showed pleasure when the networking company bought companies.
"We have acquired channel-oriented companies before, aggregating co-op funds and adding efficiency. Our Vars take the product lines they carry seriously and they have gained access to strategic product lines in the past," he said. Pataky said USR modem resellers will not be affected very much by the deal.
3Com's sales overlap with USR is less than three per cent. President Eric Benhamou cited R&D and channels as the two main driving factors behind the acquisition when he talked to the financial community on Wednesday evening, according to Pataky. "This is an acquisition with a lot of high-level synergies," Benhamou said.
