High Wycombe-based reseller Syan has bought fellow IBM business partner Protocol Solutions for £1.6m.
Jeff Trendall, chairman st Syan, said: "The acquisition of Protocol greatly strengthens our market position in the UK. The company's desktop support capabilities are a very important addition to our growing range of outsourcing services."
Syan is an AS/400 reseller and Protocol a RS/6000 reseller, so together they cover the midrange, he added. Protocol, based in Hampshire, also has a subsidiary called Biometric Solutions, which sells biometric security systems to government and financial customers.
Syan recently invested £4m in a data centre and has been appointed the application service provider partner for customer relationship management vendor Siebel Systems.
For the year ended Jan 2000, Protocol made £230,000 profit on turnover of £6.6m. Syan expects the combined companies to turn over £25m in 2001.
