IBM has signed an agreement with Western Digital to supply the hard drive manufacturer with IBM's new drive head technology, giant magnetoresistive (GMR), that can double the size of existing storage capacity according to IBM. Western Digital said it would introduce drives using GMR heads for desktop PCs by the beginning of 1999.
