Patrick Stewart, who has had leading roles in science fiction classics like The X-Men and Star Trek: The Next Generation, will be the next Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre at Oxford University.
As well as his science fiction roles Stewart is a classically trained Shakespearian actor and has previously served as the Chancellor of Huddersfield University, a move which led to a huge rise in applications.
Professor Roger Ainsworth, the Master of St Catherine's College Oxford, said: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Patrick as the next Cameron Mackintosh Professor. It will please an enormous number of people that he has agreed to do this."
"I am honoured, delighted, thrilled to bits and tickled pink," said Stewart.
