According to market research firm IDC, Microsoft had a 57 per cent share of the Windows NT database market in unit shipment terms in 1995, compared with Oracle at 23 per cent and Sybase at four per cent. Oracle's recent close alliance with Digital on NT databases may help alter this balance next year.
