Compaq today launched a glut of new products including Pentium III mobile machines and wireless networking gear for its Armada notebooks.
The company's new WL series of 11Mbps wireless Lan cards and access points allow users to stay connected to the corporate network while 'roaming' to meetings or other office locations.
Compaq's wireless access points and network cards, both compliant with the IEEE 802.11b high data rate standard, will be available from December with pricing starting around USD199 (Euro 203).
Also today, Compaq refreshed its Armada notebook range with three models, two of which feature Intel's first Pentium III mobile processors - being formally launched by Intel later today.
Separately, Compaq has been overtaken by Dell in the US PC market for the first time.
Compaq also today launched two new thin clients, the Linux based T1500 and the Windows CE based T1000. The terminals will be available in the US and Europe in December.
The company also announced three professional workstations based on Intel's long-awaited 840 chipset, and three new Trinitron monitors with USB powered hub, all available immediately.
At the same time, Compaq outlined its ecommerce strategy, which it said is to integrate core Internet technologies to make it as easy as possible for its customers to access relevant information quickly.
Kaspar Rorsted, vice president of Compaq's commercial PC group, said: "Successful companies of the 21st century must implement a strategy that has Internet technology at its core. Business must act with Internet speed to support the demands of this new environment."
