Compaq-owned Altavista has enhanced its Internet search guide to make navigating the Web more efficient.
The company has been caught up in the battle with Yahoo, Excite and Lycos to create the best portal site. It now appears to be concentrating on improving its search facilities, where Altavista achieved initial success.
The new Altavista features AV Full View Searching, a combination of the three ways to search Altavista?s 140 million pages. It includes the basic index search, directory search, and question-and-answer search. Within this is Ask Altavista which allows new users to get immediate help from a ?librarian? by asking questions in simple English and getting the single, most relevant answer.
The company also announced that from next month Altavista can be found at the new www.av.com address.
