US chipmaker Intel is to cut prices on some of its desktop processors by more than 40 per cent, it has been reported.
According to industry sources, the pricing on the Pentium 4 chip will fall by more than 20 per cent. Intel will reduce the price of its 1.5Ghz Pentium 4 by 21 per cent and the 1.4Ghz by 23 per cent. The price of the 1Ghz Pentium III chip will drop by 43 per cent.
Game over for BarrysWorld
Popular online gaming site BarrysWorld has announced it will close down from next month after calling in the liquidators.
Despite attracting over 300,000 visitors a month, the site was unable to secure sufficient funding to continue trading.
BarrysWorld will close its operations from 5 February with all 35 staff facing redundancy.
Manugistics acquires UK software firm
US software company Manugistics is to acquire STG Holdings, a privately held UK software maker.
Manugistics will pay $4.5m in stock and $1.5m cash for STG, which develops and sells scheduling and planning software for the manufacturing industry.
Under the terms of the deal, STG shareholders could receive additional cash or stock worth up to $28m over the next 21 months.
Sportingbet.com shoots high
UK online bookie Sportingbet.com has bucked the current dotcom gloom by raising £18m from institutional investors.
The company priced 15 million shares at 120p each, valuing it at £156m. It intends to float on the Alternative Investment Market in London next week.
Sportingbet.com offers tax-free telephone and internet betting to customers in 103 countries.
