Hewlett Packard (HP) is continuing to execute on its roadmap, emphasising its infrastructure software tools as the way to improve product usage.
A new low-cost entry-level ProLiant server, the single-processor ML310, plus enhanced versions of its existing ML350 and ML370 servers, build on its adaptive infrastructure capabilities.
But François Bournibus, HP's industry standard systems manager for Europe, Middle East & Africa, said that the major differentiator is a strong management platform which saves time and money for end users.
Iain Stephen, UK industry standard systems director for HP, said that the ML350, using the Intel Xeon processor, had become the hot-plug entry point system.
The system has advanced integrated lights-out remote control, which is now situated on the motherboard rather than taking a PCI slot.
HP also released Version 2.0 of the ProLiant Essentials workload management pack to provide greater security when Windows servers have been consolidated to a four- or eight-way server.
It allows users to define processor and memory resources, and will cost £309 per server.
Pricing for the ProLiant ML310 starts at £779, the ML350 starts at £1,225 in tower format or £1,385 rack mounted, and the ML370 costs from £1,745 (tower) or £1,965 (rack).
Commenting on reseller integration, Stephen said: "95 per cent of our channel partners have transitioned to the new HP. We found that 90 per cent were already carrying products from both [HP and Compaq]."
On the networked storage side, new tape libraries have appeared for the popular Linear Tape-Open, Digital Linear Tape and Super Digital Linear Tape formats. There is also a new Advanced Intelligent Tape format storage media family.
But again the emphasis is on software with the release of ENSAextended, an evolution of HP's Enterprise Network Storage Architecture.
This allows customers to adapt and optimise storage through virtualisation, performance optimisation, data archiving replication and application integration. Extended features include business rules control of infrastructure.
The HP StorageWorks MSL5000 series additions include a remote management interface.
The HP StorageWorks ESL9322 will support HP's LTO Ultrium 230 and SDLT 160/320 tape drives, and the StorageWorks ESL9595 will support these plus the SDLT 110/220 drives.
