One of the biggest mergers in IT history was formally completed last week, as 3Com and US Robotics officially became a single entity. The new company, which retains the 3Com name and logo, is expected to have annual revenues of between $6 billion (#3.75 billion) and $7 billion, putting it just slightly behind networking giant, Cisco. Introducing the new 3Com, CEO Eric Benhamou made it clear that his first mission was to beat Cisco, claiming the networking market is now a two-horse race. "Two organisations stand much taller than the others in this landscape, and the gap is widening quarter after quarter," he said.
