The latest company to introduce a 56Kbps modem is Zoom Telephonics, whose device will be available for standard telephone lines from January.
The company will also release an ISDN modem next month. Both products will be primarily aimed at PC users demanding faster access to the Internet and to other multimedia services such as videconferencing.
President Frank Manning expects the 56Kbps modem to account for 20-40 per cent of the company's total sales next year and the ISDN product for five to 15 per cent.
