Iomega has recalled 70,000 faulty Jaz disk drives, mainly from distributors and dealers in Europe.
The affected drives - which contain a component that fails over time - will be replaced within a few business days, claimed Iomega. About 50,000 of the products are in Europe and a further 20,000 in the US, although nearly all the latter are still in the channel.
The batches of faulty products have the following characteristics. On one side of the disk is a date between 13 March and 20 April, with letters and numbers below the date ending in MS, said the company.
For customers worried about the problem Iomega has established a hotline number in Ireland for concerned customers and resellers (on 353 1 807 5599). Iomega has also set up an email address at [email protected] with jazmedia in the body of the message.
The company said that anyone who bought a drive before 24 March is unlikely to be affected by the fault.
