After 12 months of negotiations, former Compaq reseller CSF has finally agreed terms with Hewlett Packard (HP) Software to sell its OpenView end-to-end multi-platform management package.
CSF, which has an annual turnover of about £100m, also works with Computer Associates for network management software, and will continue to do so.
But the company said OpenView's services management capability was attractive, even though its level of accreditation is still to be decided.
"Our partnership with HP grew out our previous relationship with Compaq," said Bob Dunsby, software business development manager at CSF.
"The next stage for us is to get accredited, which should be by the end of next month."
He said the company has a lot of interest for the OpenView software from its former Compaq customers as well as from Windows-based customers.
HP Software, which traditionally won business in the Unix space, signalled its intent to go for the Windows market last year.
George Bathurst, marketing manager at HP Software, said: "There are lots of reasons for signing CSF, but it fits into our strategy to win business in the Windows market."
The companies have been in negotiations for about a year because "we wanted to take our time to get the quality", said Bathurst.
"With the services management elements OpenView is a more complex sale, so we have to ensure the resellers are right."
HP Software currently generates 60 to 80 per cent of OpenView sales through the channel, with resellers Morse and Partners In IT buying direct and OpenPSL distributing to other resellers.
Dunsby at CSF suggested a direct relationship with HP Software, similar to that of resellers Morse and Partners in IT, would be preferable. "We always like to buy direct," he said.
