Orange suffered a network outage in the Reading area on Friday afternoon, vnunet.com can exclusively reveal.
An Orange customer attending the Reading Festival told our roving reporter James Middleton: "Apparently all of Orange's network in Reading and Berkshire has gone down. There are rumours that something blew up."
However, an Orange spokesperson explained to vnunet.com that the source of the outage was less dramatic.
"Nothing has blown up. It's actually something quite dull. An engineer was carrying out maintenance near Reading and something went wrong with a data card.
"The equipment is on its way and we know what's wrong. It will be fixed very quickly."
Middleton, on holiday at the Reading Festival, called in with the story using a rival mobile network.
"There's lots of people in this muddy field with Orange phones that don't work," he said.
