ZipScan can be used to search any of the following archived directories - Zip, CAB, RAR, JAR (Java archive) and ACE files - without having to extract their contents first.
It will even search self-extracting versions of any of the above archives.
It looks and works in a similar way to the find dialogue in applications such as Word, albeit with many more options.
There is little that the program can't when it comes to searching: it is able to cope with searches for particular extensions, searches for a particular file, and even searches for a file containing a specific piece of text.
It isn't necessarily straightforward to use, but after five minutes reading the brief help files we were performing successful searches.
Any files found can be launched directly from within the results window, and should you wish, any list of search results can be saved as text files for future reference.
