Twitter is an interesting service for people who want short concise information, news and to follow trends, from their desktop or smartphone. It serves two purposes. Individuals can follow each other and write a description based on their observations, thoughts and activities. Although you can secure your Twitter thoughts, so they are not shared with everyone, the difference between Twitter and other social networking sites is that anyone can follow your tweets.
From a business perspective, rather than refer people to your website, you can use Twitter to announce key updates to, say, your software (if you’re a developer) or similar. Of course, only people interested in your company will bother to follow your tweets.
Sideline from Yahoo is a Twitter application based on Adobe Air that will enable you to follow search terms and trends. As an example, setup Sideline to search for any references to ‘vnunet.com’ and tweets with this term will be displayed within the application. Sideline is not an application which you can use to post your own tweets or share info with other users. It’s merely a product you use to find search references across the Twitter network.
Note that as Sideline is based on Adobe Air, it will work with any platform which Air supports.
