This is an interesting piece of software that uses patented Comparisonics technology to display audio files as coloured waveforms.
Different colours are applied to different pitches of sound, with red used for high-pitched sounds, greens and blues for mid-pitch sounds, while bass sounds are represented by dark colours.
Similar sounds are represented by different shades of the same colour, and changes in sound by changes in colour.
The audio player supports WAVE, MP3, AU, AIFF and VOC audio files, and allows multiple files to be opened simultaneously in individual windows.
This software can also be used to locate similar sounds within the same audio file - just highlight the desired song element, and the rest of the track is analysed for similar sounds. Matches can be browsed using forward and back buttons.
Alternatively, the program can search the internet for similar sounds and present results on an easy to read web page, where sounds can be previewed and saved to your hard drive.
Web searching is limited to aiff, au and wave formats, but is fully customisable in other ways. Specify a minimum sample rate (8000-44100MHz), a maximum sample size (16KB-2MB), define the required resolution (8bit or 16bit), and specify whether to search for mono or stereo files (or both).
