Microsoft this week will unveil a blogging product called MSN Spaces, predicts Microsoft Watch, creating a new competitor for the likes of Blogger, Blog*Spot, LiveJournal and TypePad.
A beta has been available in Japan since last August. The Japanese market was chosen for the beta because of the "usage of mobile data and mobile blogging, but also the high level of customer interest in PC blogging and online communities," a Microsoft spokeswoman told Microsoft Watch at the time.
If that comment isn't merely a PR spin, bloggers should expect blog posting capabilities to show up in their smart phone and PDA, allowing for true and easy moblogging (mobile blogging). Also, the upcoming MSN Messenger 7 (due to ship early 2005) is rumoured to allow users to post to their blogs.
UPDATE 2 DEC, 1:00 PM: The service was officially unveiled on 1 December in the afternoon. Read the pressrelease here
