Amazon is said to be readying a video download store, according to the New York Times. The service would enable consumers to purchase and download video content from the online retailer, and create yet another player in the digital media market.
Amazon is already toying around with music downloads, and a video service would be a logical next step.
The move also shows that movie studios have much more common sense then record labels, that forced consumers to use illegal peer to peer download networks to get their online music before they started offering legitimate download services.
There is a widespread pirated movie download scene today, but quality often is poor and users often end up waiting many hours before a download is completed. A legitimate download service could easily improve on that.
