Palm has denied rumours that surfaced today regarding a UK launch next week for its much-anticipated Pre smartphone.
A news report posted on the web site of UK magazine PC Advisor claimed that Palm's Pre smartphone is "set to be officially unveiled in the UK on Tuesday".
However, a Palm spokesman told us that the event referred to by the article is in fact PlayBite 2009, a technology and media event on September 15th, where technology journalists get to see and experience upcoming products ahead of their launch.
Palm's official line is still that the Pre smartphone will be available in the UK in time for Christmas on O2's network, but an exact date has yet to be disclosed. The event is categorically NOT the official launch of the Pre, the spokesman told us.
The event will not even be the first time UK journalists have seen the upcoming handset, as it was demonstrated by Palm in July when the company revealed O2 as the launch carrier for the device.
