V3.co.uk is hosting its first Summit event from Tuesday 10th to Thursday 12th November on the topic of Information Overload. The idea behind the Summit is to bring together experts on one specific topic to debate the key challenges and issues affecting UK firms and their IT staff.
So why Information Overload? The world we live in now is increasingly reliant on technology to support basic tasks such as food distribution and traffic management; even in undeveloped countries many have access to a mobile phone or PC; and the rapid growth of social networks means everyone can have a voice and share their views across the globe within a split second. However, all these factors are contributing to an Information Overload.
This Summit, which is being sponsored by IBM, will explore the way these different issues are impacting how we live and work now, with the intention of finding ways to benefit rather than suffer from the rapid growth of information. It will bring in key figures from the worlds of industry, government, consumer groups and watchdogs to hear their opinions and quiz them on pressing issues such as data privacy, internet downloading, and getting access to accurate, up to date information.
Over the three days, experts will be coming into our offices in both London and San Francisco to take part in a series of live online events and video interviews. The V3 team will also be producing news, analysis, blogs and video diaries summarising the key issues and topics discussed over the three days. All the articles and videos will be available on a dedicated Summit web site, which will be going live soon. I'll be posting more details about the site over the next few days so check back regularly for more Summit updates.
