A mobile publishing firm is asking iPhone and iPad application developers if they have the X Factor.
You may have thought the hype around Apple products could not have reached dizzier heights after the frenzy around the recent iPad launch. But today's launch of "App Factor", is hoping to attract developers to Apple's controversially locked-down application development platform.
The new monthly competition to win an app publishing deal is being run by Teletext Mobile, the mobile publishing division of AND behind the Metro, Travel Tip-off and Findaproperty apps.
Open to all developers, the contest is sure to swell the ever-growing portfolio of apps, first touted on the iPhone and now followed with the recent launch of the iPad tablet device.
It confirms the increasing popularity of downloading mobile applications 'app stores'.
According to data recently published by ABI Research, last year consumers downloaded some 2.4 billion applications from such stores. It also predicted this download rate will accelerate over the next few years, peaking at just below 7 billion in 2013.
So it may be a sure bet to give developers a slice of celebrity treatment for entering any app that is not currently in the iTunes App Store into the new App Factor competition. Each month one developer will be offered a publishing deal by Teletext Mobile that it said would provide promotional opportunities and investment to a monthly audience of 40 million people.
MirrorMe, the first App Factor winner announced after a soft launch in April, uses facial recognition software and medical research to show what a person will look like in the future, depending on different lifestyles, including smoking, drinking and sleep.
