Microsoft is planning a major reorganisation to enable it to focus on the Internet.
According to widespread reports today, Microsoft will divide the company into four customer oriented groups: consumer, which will include Windows, online and Internet customers; enterprise, to encompass large companies and institutions; knowledge workers, aimed at home office, mobile and small business users, plus a developers' unit.
Some reports have also speculated that Brad Silverberg, a former Microsoft executive currently on sabbatical, will be brought back to take charge of all consumer operations and assist in the reorganisation.
It is widely believed that Microsoft president Steve Ballmer is behind the moves.
The company is not commenting on the possible restructuring but said it was involved in ongoing discussions about how to target customers and that an announcement is possible in March.
