FAQs on V3's anti-ad blocking technology
Why can't I use an adblocker on V3?
Our journalism is funded through advertising, but this business model is under threat by the use of ad blockers, which prevents adverts from appearing on the website. V3 therefore has to restrict access to articles when ad blockers are active.
How do I turn off an ad blocker?
There are different ad blockers available but most allow you to ‘whitelist' certain websites.
To do this for V3, click on the ad blocker icon - usually located near your browser bar, in your taskbar or in the bottom right corner of your screen - and then select the option to disable or pause the software on www.v3.co.uk.
You may also be given the option to disable it only on the page you are currently on, but be aware that you would need to do this for every page on V3 which you visited.
If I do this, will I then be able to read the content?
Yes. You may need to refresh the page once the ad blocker is disabled, but you will then be able to see the content.
I don't have an ad blocker on but I'm being blocked anyway.
Please wait at least 10 seconds for the page to load fully.
There are other types of software around which can get in the way of adverts being served correctly, and may cause a problem with the viewability of V3. Examples include Ghostery, Disconnect and Do Not Track Me. It's worth ‘whitelisting' V3 on these too.
I've heard that using private browsing mode in Firefox can cause problems with viewability of sites?
Firefox has a private browsing mode which includes ‘Tracking Protection'. This works in pretty much the same way as an ad blocker, so you are likely to be prevented from reading V3.
To continue reading content, you will need to click on the shield icon in the top left corner of your Firefox browser and click ‘disable protection for this session'.
This will only turn off this setting for www.v3.co.uk and you can continue to browse the rest of the internet with it on.
I've tried everything and I still can't read what I want!
Try refreshing your browser by pressing F5.
