The music industry has finally worked out how to make money out of internet music downloads. But will legal online music services be as popular as P2P sites?

Downloading music from the internet has been wildly popular for years, but it has taken the record labels some time to work out how they can make money out of it, rather than watching fans swap music for free.

A range of online services, such as Apple's iTunes, born again Napster and Peter Gabriel's OD2, are now offering legitimate services.

But will all the record labels sign up? And how will the rise of legal online music services hit the peer-to-peer downloads that have been so popular until now?
