Corel unveils office apps suite for home users

Home Office designed with remote workers in mind

David Neal

Corel has announced a new Microsoft Office-compatible suite of business tools designed for home workers and consumers.

Corel Home Office is ideally suited for work in the home environment, according to the firm, and has been designed for use on netbooks and notebooks.

The software has low memory requirements and a small footprint, but does not compromise on features, Corel said.

Included in the package is Corel Write for word processing, Corel Calculate for spreadsheets, charts and graphs, and Corel Show for presentations and PDF files.

"In talking with consumers and home-based business owners, it became clear that they were seeking greater simplicity in their software. At the same time, the growing popularity of netbooks and other mini notebook computers means that more users are focusing on a smaller set of core tasks," said Jay Larock, director of product management at Corel.

"Corel Home Office addresses this segment's specific needs by striking the right balance between features, price and productivity, all in a unique package that is ideally suited to today's portable computers."

Home Office supports a number of file formats, including Microsoft Office, and comes in 13 different language options. The software is available now through the firm's web site priced at £57.74. A trial version is also offered.
