Specifications for the next iPhone have apparently been leaked online. The new handset, expected next month, will come in 16GB and 32GB sizes, doubling the current storage, and will also have double the processor speed and RAM capacity.

The camera is being upgraded from the current 2-megapixels to 3.2-megapixels, according to the specifications on the AppleiPhoneApps blog, which cited sources close to the hardware development team.

Battery life is said to have been extended by 50 per cent, in part down to a new OLED screen that replaces the LCD model.

Apple is expected to keep the price the same for both models, $199 and $299, which is in line with past practice.

The design is also changing, according to the blog. The metal band around the handset will go, and the back of the phone will be rubberised with a glowing Apple logo.

Other improvements include the ability to record and edit video, a digital compass and a new service with Google Maps tied into the unit's GPS.

Apple never comments on rumours of new products, but the details are similar to those published on a Chinese message board earlier this year.
