Adobe has
announced that its
AIR
runtime technology has reached over 100 million installations less than a year
after its release, while
Flash
Player 10 is shaping up to become the firm's most popular version of the
software.
Adobe Integrated Runtime, or AIR, allows developers to write rich internet
applications that can run without a browser, thus providing more compelling
experiences for users.
Big name customers of AIR include the BBC and Nasdaq, while manufacturers
including Sony have begun to install the software on their computers
pre-shipping.
Adobe Flash Player 10, meanwhile, was installed on over 55 per cent of
computers worldwide in the first two months of its release, and is expected to
reach 80 per cent by the second quarter of 2009, surpassing previous versions of
the software, the company said.
"Adobe is the leader in enabling people to express themselves and connect
with others globally through the distribution of our world-class client
software," said Michele Turner, vice president of product marketing at Adobe's
Platform Business Unit.
"The traction we are seeing with Adobe AIR and Adobe Flash Player 10 in such
a short period of time is a clear indication that individuals and organisations
across the globe rely on the Adobe Flash Platform for breakthrough interactive
content, applications and video on the web."
