Google remains in a very powerful position as the most used search engine,
according to comScore's monthly analysis of the US search marketplace.
Around 12.6 billion searches were carried out in the US in October, 63 per
cent of which used Google. This large share puts the company firmly at the top
of the chart.
As for the competition, Yahoo logged a 20 per cent share, followed by
Microsoft with eight per cent and Ask.Com with four per cent. The figures equate
to eight billion searches on Google, 2.6 billion on Yahoo, 1.1 billion on
Microsoft, and 530 million on Ask.com.
The market appears to be pretty static, with each service scoring low
percentage gains or staying still. Google gained 0.2 per cent, Yahoo 0.3 per
cent and Microsoft nothing.
Overall, searches during the month were seven per cent higher than in
September.
