Apple has posted an update for the iPhone and iPod touch. The 2.2 version
adds several features to both devices, as well as a host of security and
stability improvements.
Users will now be able to use the Google Street View function on the built-in
Maps application on the iPhone, allowing users to navigate city maps at
street-level mode.
The 2.2 update also ads the ability to download podcasts directly through
iTunes. Apple had blocked any App Store submissions which attempted to download
podcasts,
much
to the anger of users.
Apple also issued several patches to help shore up security, addressing 12
vulnerabilities across both devices. Impacts from the flaws range from SMS
message information disclosure weaknesses in the emergency call feature, to
remote code execution flaws in the iPhone's handling of image files and web
pages.
Users can obtain the update for both devices through iTunes. The updates will
be offered when the user syncs the device with a Mac or PC.
