Quickoffice 6.0 supports online file stores and enhances security

Daniel Robinson

Quickoffice has unveiled the latest version of its mobile office suite for Symbian phones, adding the ability to link to online file sharing services and Microsoft SharePoint servers.

Due to ship in early 2009, Quickoffice 6.0 enables users to remotely access, browse and open files stored on Apple's MobileMe iDisk, FilesAnywhere and Box.net, the company said, as well as access files on corporate drives and servers, including Microsoft SharePoint.

Quickoffice also said that the new release features increased security, supporting encrypted and password-protected Word and Excel documents. A new file manager supports opening, editing and saving back to Zip files.

Existing versions of the suite already support Microsoft's Office 2007 file formats for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, but the new version enables users to view charts in Office 2007 Excel spreadsheets including real-time recalculation.
