Financial analysis has seen an upsurge in interest owing to market turbulence

MathWorks promises faster data analysis

Supercomputing could shorten critical scientific and financial calculations

Dave Bailey

Technical compute vendor The MathWorks has announced that its Parallel Computing Toolbox and Matlab Distributed Computing Server have been certified for use on the Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE).

The announcement provides another option for companies and public sector scientific organisations wishing to outsource high performance computing infrastructure.

The MathWorks specialises in image processing, computational biology and signal processing and communications, among other areas.

The company also handles financial modelling and analysis, an area which has seen an upsurge in interest recently owing to the turbulence currently rocking the world's financial markets.

"EGEE has embarked on a strategic process to target businesses and especially SMEs and start-ups as the main beneficiaries of grid adoption," said EGEE project director Bob Jones.

Silvina Grad-Freilich, manager of parallel computing and application deployment marketing at The MathWorks, added: "Researchers are constantly seeking ways to improve the speed with which they can develop and execute their complex programmes."

The provision of standard financial analysis software routines running in parallel on EGEE could significantly reduce the time required to process large amounts of financial data.
