The Queen has become the latest high-profile YouTube contributor after posting a video clip of a 1969 reception for British Olympians during a visit to Google's UK headquarters on Thursday.

The clip is being hosted through the monarchy's official YouTube channel, which was launched in late 2007 with a Christmas message from the Queen.

The visit from the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh was part of a ceremony to recognise the winners of Google's 'doodle' contest, which asked schoolchildren to design a logo for the search site.

The Queen also met fellow octogenarian and YouTube star Peter Oakley. The 81-year old pensioner became an internet celebrity in 2006 when his 'Geriatric1927' clips gained acclaim and were nominated for a YouTube award.

The Queen has long held a reputation for her willingness to embrace the internet. In 1976, she became one of the first people in the UK to send an email during a visit to an army base, and later personally recognised Tim Berners-Lee for his contribution to the web.

Both the Queen and Prince Philip have been said to use email regularly to keep in touch with their grandchildren, and earlier this year reports surfaced that the Queen was becoming an avid Nintendo Wii player.
