HP has announced a new campaign to boost the company's presence in China, including a manufacturing plant in the city of Chongqing.

The 20,000 square-metre factory will focus primarily on building notebook and desktop systems for sale within China. HP is also planning to build a separate support centre in Chongqing.

HP hopes that the new plant will bolster the company's presence in China and allow it to broaden its reach with the country's expanding consumer and business bases. The company is currently the second biggest PC vendor in China behind Lenovo.

"We look forward to expanding the opportunities for local talent in the heart of China to help us better serve the Chinese market for computing products and services," said Todd Bradley, executive vice president of HP's personal systems group.

HP hopes to have the new manufacturing plant online by 2010.
