Rational AppScan Express Edition is an automated testing solution tailored towards firms with limited IT resources, and could help along the road to PCI compliance, according to IBM.

"IBM continues to offer comprehensive and cost-effective solutions through the Express Advantage portfolio to our businesses' partners enabling them to meet the needs of their customers as well as address their challenges," said Steve Solazzo, general manager of IBM General Business.

"We are determined to ensure the safety of data for our business partner ecosystem and, in turn, their customers."

Big Blue also launched a new IT Security Assessment Tool designed to help mid-sized firms assess the extent of vulnerabilities.

The online tool uses research from analyst firm Aberdeen Group to provide suggestions on how users can improve security.
