Asus has announced the final details of the latest additions to its highly popular EeePC range, the 904 and 1000.

The EeePC 1000 will sport a 10in screen and a slightly larger keyboard than its predecessors.

Asus said that the 904 has an 8.9in screen, 1Gb Ram and 80GB hard drive, but is fitted into the chassis of a 1000 giving it a larger keyboard and more room for components.

Its larger screen and case means that the 904 weighs in at 1.36kg, a little more than the 1.1kg of previous EeePC models.

The 904 will be powered by an Intel Celeron processor and will come installed with Windows XP.

The 901 and 1000 run on Intel's new Atom CPUs and can have either Linux or Windows pre-installed.

The Linux based 1000 model comes with a 40GB solid-state drive and weighs 1.33kg, while the Windows XP version will have a standard 80GB hard drive and weigh 1.45kg.

Both new models are due to hit shelves within the next week or so. The 904 is set to retail for £269, while the XP version of the 1000 is earmarked for sale at £349 and the Linux version at £369, being slightly more expensive due to the solid state hard drive.

Despite the wide acclaim and high profile of the EeePC range, it seems that sales of the units have fallen short of expectations.

According to reports, Asus sold around 1.7 million units in the first six months of 2008, a few hundred thousand shy of its two million target.

Many have attributed this to a combination of the worsening economic climate and a number of people holding off for the newer upcoming Atom-based models.
