Moon beat students of all ages across the US to take the top spot in the art contest in which students were challenged to create a new rendition of the Google logo under the theme 'What if?'.

The student's design, called Up in the Sky, will usurp the usual multi-coloured Google logo on 22 May. Moon will also receive a $10,000 scholarship as well as a $25,000 technology grant for her school.

Doodle 4 Google entries were sifted through by a panel of outside judges and Google employees, and the grand prize winner was selected by webmaster manager Dennis Hwang.

Moon said of her entry that she was aiming to portray a "world in the sky".

"This new world is clean and fresh, and people are social and enlightened," she said. "Every person here is treated as family no matter who they are. The bright sun heats this ideal place with warmth, love and brightens everyone's day."
