AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0 also incorporates the safe-searching component of the company's LinkScanner technology, which provides real-time flagging of malicious hyperlinks in Google, Yahoo and MSN search results.

"With the release of AVG Free 8.0, we are underscoring our belief that all computer users, regardless of their needs, have the right to a safe and worry-free computing experience," said Karel Obluk, chief technology officer at AVG Technologies.

The software also offers a revamped scanning engine for faster performance, and reduced system resource requirements.

AVG Technologies released the version 8.0 of its commercial products in February 2008.
