Only specialist users need apply

PC World has unveiled its latest 'free' laptop promotion, this time for customers agreeing to sign up to an 18-month mobile broadband subscription with 3.

Customers receive up to £350 off a range of over 10 laptops. Some are offered free upfront, others at a heavily discounted cost.

The selection includes the Advent 9912 and Advent 9915w, worth £329.99 and £429.99 respectively.

However, buyers must pay £35 a month for 18 months on the 3 tariff to take advantage of the offers.

This works out at £630 over the contract period, which is a deal only for specialist users who do not have access to a fixed broadband connection.

"It is great for those customers who do not require, or have access to, a fixed landline telephone as the broadband is delivered via the mobile network," said Glenn Orchard, head of commercial development at PC World.

The tariff includes a 3GB monthly download allowance, with excess data charged at 10p per megabyte thereafter, and 200 free text messages sent via the laptop.

The promotion brings PC World up to speed with Carphone Warehouse, which is running a similar promotion with 3 offering a free Dell Inspiron 1520 if they sign up to the same mobile broadband tariff.

PC World launched a similar promotion last year in partnership with Orange.
